Project Manager – Water Asset Design

About the Role

Our Water Asset Design team operates primarily in the municipal water sector, as well as the non-regulated (industrial/international) sector, working with some of the largest water companies in the UK and key contractors within the industry. We deliver critical projects in:

  • Wastewater treatment
  • Water treatment
  • Sewerage
  • Water network schemes
  • Infrastructure and non-infrastructure solutions

Our projects range from routine maintenance to large-scale water infrastructure developments across the UK. The team is distributed nationally, supported by an outsourced team based in India.

We are seeking a Project Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of projects, from optioneering through to execution and client handover.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Manager within the Asset Design Team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning & Management
    • Manage project proposals, defining scope, resources, programmes, and cost estimates (budgets)
    • Lead financial accountability, including revenue delivery, margin management, cost controls, budgets, and forecasting
    • Develop key project documentation, such as:
      • Project management plans
      • Risk registers
      • Stakeholder registers
      • Time plans & schedules
      • Contract administration records
    • Monitor and control project progress across schedule, man-hours, budgets, and expenditures

  • Team Leadership & Governance

    • Lead multidisciplinary teams, including technical and supplier resources
    • Ensure quality assurance and health & safety compliance
    • Manage project deliverables, information, and records, ensuring alignment with objectives
    • Drive continuous improvement and capture lessons learned
  • Stakeholder & Contract Management

    • Ensure effective communication with teams and clients
    • Anticipate and resolve issues or conflicts that impact project delivery
    • Lead change and contract management, including NEC contract administration

What We Are Looking For

We seek a candidate who can demonstrate:

✔ Proven experience in delivering infrastructure projects, preferably within:

  • The regulated water industry (highly advantageous)
  • Non-regulated water/sector-spanning schemes

✔ Practical knowledge or accreditation in NEC (New Engineering Contract) frameworks

✔ Sixth-year experience in:

  • Stakeholder management
  • Risk & financial planning
  • Programme and cost oversight
  • Technical/operative stakeholder relations

✔ Professional membership or alignment with leading project management bodies, such as:

  • Association for Project Management (APM)
  • Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Institute of Civil Engineers (MICE)

✔ Proficient use of project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, internal WSP ERP systems)
