Project Manager – Water Asset Design – WSP

About the Role
Our Water Asset Design team primarily works in the municipal water sector as well as the non-regulated (industrial/international) sector. Our clients include some of the largest water companies in the UK, as well as key contractors within the sector.
We deliver wastewater treatment, water treatment, sewerage, and water network projects, including supporting related industries. Our projects range from routine network maintenance to some of the largest water projects in the UK. Our team operates across the UK and is supported by an external team in India.
We are now seeking a Project Manager to lead the delivery of water-focused projects across disciplines, from optioneering through to handover for our global clients.
Key responsibilities include:
- Project leadership: Overseeing multidisciplinary teams, ensuring high-quality delivery, and maintaining a strong health and safety focus.
- End-to-end project management: Planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling projects to meet the client’s objectives.
- Upholding commercial accountability: Managing Plans and Profits, budgets, cash flow, risk registers, and contract administration.
- Strategic delivery: Developing documentation (e.g., schedules, stakeholders registers, risk management plans) to drive project success.
- Team development: Leading, mentoring, and guiding both internal and supplier team members.
- Issue prevention & resolution: Anticipating risks, managing conflicts, and ensuring on-time delivery.
- Legacy-building: Encouraging continuous improvement and capturing lessons learnt.

Responsibilities
You will:
- Manage project proposals, defining scope, resources, programmes, and cost/budget estimates.
- Own financial accountability—revenue delivery, margin management, risk/opportunity reviews, and commercial controls.
- Develop and maintain project management documentation (plans, forecasts, risk registers, schedules, etc.).
- Monitor budgets, man-hours, and expenditure to ensure cost efficiency.
- Ensure effective contract management, including NEC compliance and change control.
- Direct multidisciplinary teams (technical, design, and supplier-delivered work).
- Maintain stakeholder communication, capturing and resolving issues pre-emptively.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing.
Requirements
You must demonstrate a proven track record in:
- Infrastructure project delivery (preferably with water (regulated/unregulated) industry experience).
- Familiarity or qualification in NEC contracts (supported by technical and practical experience).
- Membership of professional institutions (e.g., APM, PMI, MICE) or equivalent demonstrated competence.
- Project management tool proficiency (MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
- Competency in stakeholder management, risk assessment, planning, scheduling, and commercial oversight.
