Your New Role – What You’ll Be Doing
As a Project Manager in our Local Government team, you’ll take the lead on a wide variety of structures and highways projects that genuinely improve everyday life for people across the UK.
You will:
- Oversee the successful delivery of structures and highways projects from inception to completion.
- Manage multidisciplinary resources to provide investigations, feasibility studies, detailed design, tender documentation, inspections, data analysis, and construction supervision.
- Prepare progress reports and attend client review meetings.
- Build strong relationships with project stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparent communication.
- Apply your working knowledge of Health, Safety and Welfare, and CDM responsibilities.
- Champion project management excellence and drive innovation within the team.
- Maintain compliance with ISO standards, client procedures, and WSP’s business management system.

Your Team
You’ll become part of our high‑performing project management teams based in Leeds or Teesside friendly, collaborative and built on trust, integrity and fairness.
Our teams are central to delivering impactful projects for both private sector and Local Authority clients, including our long‑standing partnership with Leeds City Council, which spans more than 20 years.
You’ll support or lead on a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from:
- Award‑winning schemes such as the Regent Street Flyover,
- Bridge refurbishments, maintenance improvements, feasibility studies, and nationwide inspection and assessment programmes.
We follow WSP’s Project Management frameworks alongside APM best practice. With exposure to the full project lifecycle, you’ll have exceptional opportunities for career development, progression and professional accreditation with full support along the way.

- Proven experience in project management, ideally within highways or structures.
- Experience preparing contract documents.
- APM or PRINCE qualifications (desirable).
- Strong commercial and financial project management skills.
- Experience managing a range of project management activities, systems and processes.
- Confidence engaging with clients and project stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Welfare, and CDM Regulations.
- Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
