Mace is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major sterile manufacturing facility expansion within a highly regulated GMP environment.
The successful candidate will provide technical engineering leadership throughout design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover phases, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, compliant, operationally effective and aligned with project objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting project delivery through established project governance and stage-gate processes.
- Developing and managing user requirement specifications (URS), design specifications, P&IDs, layouts and technical documentation.
- Managing technical reviews and provide design assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Managing engineering interfaces with design consultants, contractors, equipment vendors and site stakeholders.
- Providing technical governance for equipment procurement, installation and integration activities.
- Supporting construction delivery through resolution of technical queries, change control processes and deviation management.
- Coordinating commissioning readiness activities, including mechanical completion verification and system boundary definition.
- Participating in safety reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs and engineering assurance processes.
- Ensuring engineering activities comply with project standards, quality requirements and EHS expectations.

The role will support engineering delivery across a range of facility and building systems, including:
- Cleanrooms and controlled environments.
- Facility fit-out packages.
- HVAC systems.
- Domestic water services.
- Above-ground drainage systems.
- Fire protection and sprinkler systems.
- Structural and civil engineering works.
- Personnel and operational support facilities.
- Utility infrastructure and building services.
Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical, Process, Chemical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven Project Engineering experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience delivering projects through design, construction, commissioning and handover phases.
- Strong understanding of engineering design management and technical governance processes.
- Experience reviewing engineering deliverables, equipment specifications and vendor packages.
- Familiarity with GMP environments and engineering quality requirements.
- Excellent stakeholder management and coordination skills.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and technical reporting capabilities.
- Experience delivering sterile manufacturing or aseptic processing facilities.
- Knowledge of EU GMP, MHRA or FDA regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of commissioning, qualification and validation processes.
- Experience participating in HAZOPs, safety reviews and risk assessments.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation.
- Experience working within EPCM, client-side or consultancy-led project environments.
