Project Placement – Abbey House Museum Memories
Salary: £12.71 per hour Hours: 222 hours (30-day placement) Contract: Casual Location: Abbey House Museum
In 2027, Abbey House Museum celebrates its 100th anniversary. To mark this milestone, we’re collecting memories—from former staff, visitors, and volunteers—of working at or visiting the museum. This will form part of the temporary exhibition, 'Abbey House Museum: 100 Years, 100 Objects', contributing to our centenary celebrations and potentially uncovering new objects or stories for our collections.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Follow up on responses from questionnaires issued to individuals about their museum-related experiences.
- Identify potential interviewees to share their stories.
- Assist the Assistant Community Curator in conducting interviews with groups and individuals.
- Help prepare recordings and stories for exhibition use in various formats.
Requirements
Attributes:
- Ability to work under supervision while managing your own tasks.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Teamwork and collaborative working ability.
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., word processing, emails).

About the Project Placement
Developed with Arts Council England funding, this 30-day paid placement offers practical experience in a heritage/cultural organisation and provides training opportunities under guidance from Leeds Museums and Galleries.
- Hours and schedule will be flexible, approved by your supervisor.

- Community outreach, learning programmes, and exhibitions.
- Maintaining high standards in customer service.
- Supporting enquiries, feedback collation, and volunteer management.
Accessibility & Development
✔ Collaborate to ensure equitable and inclusive museum experiences.
Collections Programming & Research
✔ Assist in collections management:
- Documentation, digitisation, and web-based accessibility.
- Exhibition preparation (including physical/logistical support and guided writing).
- Research sourcing for historical items (under instruction).

Qualifications
