Project Planner – Permanent Role
Location: Gatwick Airport office (with scope to work from other UK Power Networks Services locations)
Contract Type: Permanent Salary: £68,144 with a 3% bonus Closing Date: 30/06/2026
About UK Power Networks Services
Position reports to Lead Project Manager within UK Power Networks Services, serving projects across Gatwick Airport and wider operations. Circa £12M annual expenditure with ≈30 live projects, including support for Periodic and External tenders.
About the Role
The Project Planner will collaborate with Design, Delivery, and third-party stakeholders, preparing, maintaining, and improving project schedules while delivering against earned value management frameworks. Key duties involve:
- Developing and maintaining logic-linked project plans with resource planning and cost estimating
- Monitoring project performance for resources, risks, and critical paths
- Generating schedule impact assessments for change control and risk management processes
- Validating delivery team Programme Baseline Data (P6) and changes under NEC/ECC contracts
- Facilitating collaborative workshops, mentoring project teams, and managing interface dependencies across sub-programmes
- Ensuring programme accuracy through periodic audits, reporting, and alignment with Earned Value Management (EVM)
- Identifying and mitigating risks through robust scheduling and contingency planning
Principal Accountabilities

Programme Management & Reporting
- Maintain and align schedules in Primavera P6 with approved Work Breakdown Structures (WBS/OBS/CBS)
- Generate accurate programme data for EVM, future forecasting, and financial reporting (£12M+ expenditure)
- Monitor sub-programme progress and deliver on operational, cost, and time response requirements

Change & Risk Oversight
- Validate problem free program submission logic, float allocations, and critical path minimisation
- Assess delay impacts under registered construction methodologies and integrate approvals into baselines
- Support Lesson Learned capture and mitigation for future project execution

Collaborative & Supportive Function
- Lead/coordinate weekly resource workshops, interface management, and data consolidation for project dashboards
- Facilitate Gateway compliance for client submissions and month-end reporting
- Train and guide project teams in Primavera software, safety protocols, and programme best practices

Dimensions of the Role
- Budget Scope: Support of multiple projects (~£12m/year)
- Operational Goals: Facilitate seamless transmission of upstream client briefs through to downstream execution
- Cross-functional Alignment: Interface with design teams, suppliers, commercial, and finance functions
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Proven engineering degree or equivalent (applications lacking are unlikely to progress)
- Primavera P6 expertise on complex construction programmes (mandatory)
- Strong earned value management reporting capability, NEC3/ECC contract process knowledge
- Solid planning-workflow for prime cost program submissions with an understanding of UK BNCS calendar-based interventions
- Mindful of CDM 2015 regulations and best practices
- Abilities in change control, programme validation, EVM periodicity updates, and reporting
Desirable
- Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APMP)
- Strong stakeholder management and collaborative problem-solving intervals
- Effective estimated work burtens and resource allocation techniques for programme consistency
- Technically proficient in Primavera saving workflows, default scenes, phasers, children scenes, earned value trends
Security & Compliance Requirements
- Security Clearance: Must hold a pass/full clearance with Airside Technologies Dealing for UK monitoring (visor/resumé no earlier than five years)
- Airside Driving Permit: UK driving licence to work for **Airside permits (not for mass position)
