Project Planner – Transmission Networks (Hybrid), M Group Energy
M Group Energy is renewing essential infrastructure across the energy sector, empowering growth while prioritising safety, customer service, and career development. Join our Transmission & Renewables team to transform how we deliver electricity — from overhead lines at 400kV to substations and renewable networks.
This hands-on hybrid role (3 days on-site across Glasgow & Aberdeen) blends programme management with field leadership. As a Project Planner, you’ll shape projects from conception to delivery, driving excellence in planning, risk management, and-value while working within a team that thrives on collaboration and accountability.

Our Transmission & Renewables team specialises in designing, building, and commissioning overhead lines up to 400kV. Teams construct and maintain transmission networks, ensuring reliable energy delivery — of critical importance to life.

The Role: What You’ll Do
As Project Planner, you’ll drive strategic planning, efficiency, and programme integrity across construction and operational projects. Your work will span:
- Hybrid development and value:
- Build, optimize, and execute real-time construction plans, trackers, and reports.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align timing with resources, outages, consents, and permits.
- ** üstive leadership**:
- Lead weekly progress check-ins with the Project/Construction Manager and Site Engineers.
- Monitor contract compliance, KPIs, and economic safety benchmarks.
- Integrated systems:
- Work with the Head of Commercial to integrate our cost management tools.
- Develop robust change management processes, risk registers, and EVM/SPI reporting.
- Strategic foresight:
- Represent the team at tenderer meetings, client negotiations, and regulatory sandboxes.
- Provide benchmarking insights to boost value and cost-efficiency.

Responsibilities
- Develop & adhere to plans: Deliver thorough project programmes across design, procurement, and construction. Stay adaptive, updating timelines as required.
- Effective collaboration: Engage with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Buyers and Hes.
- Tender and tender stage plans: Align planning inputs with conceptualisation, bidding, and build readings.
- Client relations: Attend external meetings to ensure deadlines and client expectations are met.
- Benchmark excellence: Gather cost-performance indicators, identify best practices across projects.
- Risk, Issue & Opportunity Management (RIO): Coordinate risk registers with other stakeholders, ensuring problems are proactively addressed.
- Continuous improvement: Monitor new methodologies, tech (AI/automation), and best practices to enhance unit efficiency.
- Company-wide sync: Contribute planning standards that align with operational and commercial goals. Champion best-practice in a hybrid work model.
- Team integration: Drive collaboration across planning, systems, commercial, and operational teams. Represent the financial and technical alignment across projects.
- Strategic alignment: Help shape future roadmaps and objectives with broader teams.
What You’ll Bring
- Core requirements:
- ✅ Full UK driving licence (required for road access & site mobility).
- ✅ Competency with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- ✅ Experience in Earned Value Management (EVM) and knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Enhancing factors:
- Experience in change management systems and processes.
- Background in energy, grid infrastructure, or construction project planning.
