Project Quality Engineer

Project Quality Engineer – Fusion Energy & HTS Systems

About Tokamak Energy

Tokamak Energy is a global leader in fusion energy and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technologies. We collaborate with governments and industry partners to develop and commercialise fusion and HTS solutions through innovation and strategic partnerships. Our capabilities span design, manufacturing, and integration, including pioneering the UK Government’s STEP Fusion Programme—a £70 million project delivering HTS magnet systems for the UK’s first prototype power plant.

Founded in 2009 as a spin-out from the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Tokamak Energy is headquartered in Oxfordshire, with subsidiaries in the US and Japan. With over 300 employees and £280m+ in investment, we operate through three key divisions:

  • Fusion: Spherical tokamak (ST40) and fusion energy technologies supporting global programmes.
  • TE Magnetics: HTS systems for energy, life sciences, power distribution, and propulsion.
  • Ridgway Machines: Manufacturing equipment enabling scalable production of superconducting and energy technologies.

The Role

This hands-on Project Quality Engineer position sits at the heart of fast-moving, high-priority engineering projects. You’ll work directly within project teams, embedding quality practices from build through project closeouts—to shape and improve how quality is delivered in a growing, project-driven environment.

Responsible for balancing practical delivery with continuous improvement, you’ll help teams adopt better ways of working while collaborating proactively (without authority) across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Work on-site within project teams to provide quality engineering support from conception through to project closure.
  • Define, implement, and maintain Project Quality Plans and Control Plans.
  • Facilitate PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) sessions, supporting up skilled teams even late in the design cycle.
  • Capture, review, and ensure proper storage of all production and quality documentation.
  • Lead root cause investigations and problem-solving activities (e.g., corrective action plans).
  • Act as a trusted quality partner for design, manufacturing, and operations teams.
  • Convert lessons learned into structured knowledge (e.g., risks, failure modes, process decisions) for future projects.
  • Support internal audits, handle non-conformances, and drive corrective actions.
  • Co-develop practical, scalable quality processes that enhance—rather than impede—project efficiency.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
