## **Project SHEQ Manager – NationalGrid Electricity Transmission (NGET)**
### **About the Role**

As **NationalGrid Electricity Transmission (NGET)** sits at the heart of the UK’s energy system, we play a critical role in enabling a **decarbonised future**.
As **Project SHEQ Manager**, you will provide visible leadership and accountability for the consistent application of legal and organisational **Safety, Health, Environment, Security and Quality (SHESQ)** requirements across our major construction projects.
You will:
- Line manage a team of **Project Supervisors (PS)** and **Senior Project Supervisors (SPS)**, fulfilling the Employer’s **"Supervisor" role** under **NEC contracts** across multiple projects and construction sites.
- Ensure all works are delivered **safely**, **compliantly**, and in line with contractual and planning requirements.
- Act as a **matrix manager**, working closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver **SHESQ performance and compliance** in alignment with **NationalGrid** policies and procedures.
- Lead formal **NGET interface** with contractors for day-to-day construction activities, monitoring progress and collaboratively resolving **programme risks and issues**, while supporting incident investigations to capture learning and drive continuous improvement.
- Effectively manage **PS resources** across regional project teams to build organisational capability, ensuring **high-quality work** delivered **safely**, **on time**, and **"right first time"**.

As the roles are primarily site-based, you will be required to live and travel within the assigned region.
About You
You will bring expertise in leading cross-functional teams, a strong background in construction safety, quality, and project delivery, and a proven ability to operate effectively within a complex, regulated environment. Key requirements include:
Essential:
- A thorough understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, policies, and construction best practices, including a sound working knowledge of:
- CDM Regulations
- Client and Principal Contractor duties
- Proven experience working on large, multi-disciplinary construction projects in a commercial, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong project management capabilities, including:
- Risk management to deliver projects against scope, programme, cost, quality, safety, and security of supply requirements.
- Knowledge of contract management principles applicable to major infrastructure projects.
- Detailed knowledge of:
- Quality management systems
- Site inspection standards
- Use of inspection and test plans to ensure compliant delivery.
- Understanding of NationalGrid’s SHEQ, materials, and construction processes - desirable.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and challenge stakeholders at all levels.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH GC (National Exam Board in Occupational Safety and Health General Certificate) or minimum IOSH certifications.
- Experience in quality/environmental management and auditing, e.g., ISO 9001.
