Project Sustainability Lead

About the Role
The Project Sustainability Lead will predominantly support construction operations and act as a technical expert in sustainability, assisting the project team to navigate requirements such as BREEAM, LEED, and Low Carbon Construction.
They will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to direct decisions and activities towards sustainable and compliant outcomes, aligning with project objectives. The role will also work closely with the wider sustainability team to ensure business activities align with TSL’s sustainability strategy: “Build Beyond”.
Responsibilities
Project Compliance
- Serve as the key sustainability contact for assigned construction projects, providing technical advice and guidance to project teams.
- Contribute to environmental sustainability training efforts and deliver monthly reports to the project team on site environmental performance and progress.
- Support discharging environmental, social, and sustainability-related planning conditions, aligning with TSL’s KPIs.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure environmental compliance and best practices.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including construction environmental management plans and pollution incident response plans.

Building & Project Certification
- Assist project teams in understanding and achieving BREEAM, LEED, and other certification requirements, including targeted credits.
- Engage with supply chain and relevant stakeholders to ensure certification requirements are met and evidence collected in a timely manner.
- Lead or support the compliance and certification tracker, maintaining an auditable record of sustainability evidence.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients and consultants regarding certification progress and requirements.
- Manage the assessment process in line with industry guidance, incorporating feedback from project teams.
- Identify and escalate risks that could impact certification deadlines.
- Promote knowledge sharing and process improvements to enhance efficiency in BREEAM and related projects.
Sustainability Strategy
- Support the Head of ESG in strategy delivery, performance evaluation, and target attainment.
- Integrate CBS (TSL’s sustainability strategy) objectives into operational practices and drive performance improvements.
- Align Ireland operations with TSL’s global sustainability framework, focusing on European reporting requirements.
- Assist in developing environmental management systems and other ESG business documentation.
Key Skills & Experience
Qualifications
- Essential:
- A degree qualification in an environmental, sustainability, or ESG discipline.
- Desirable:
- Health & Safety Certification or ISO 14001 Internal Auditor Qualification.
- BREEAM / LEED Certification (e.g., BREEAM Accredited Professional, LEED AP).

Experience
- Essential:
- 3+ years’ experience supporting construction sustainability in the built environment, including:
- Reviewing and preparing evidence for BREEAM/LEED/WELL certification assessments.
- Tsukuba experience in environmental compliance in construction projects.
- 3+ years’ experience supporting construction sustainability in the built environment, including:
- Desirable:
- Proven leadership in BREEAM assessment teams, with a track record of successful certifications.
- Experience in environmental and social impact assessments, and driving sustainability performance improvements.
- Writing and updating business management systems (e.g., procedures, policies).
- Conducting building emission lifecycle assessments (LCAs) using software such as OneClick LCA.
Core Skills
- Essential:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Clear, effective communication, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to present to diverse audiences.
- Competence in report writing and handling large data sets for emissions and sustainability metrics reporting.
- Desirable:
- Proficiency in sustainability assessment/data reporting tools and software.
Additional Information
- Travel: Occasional national travel may be required to support assigned projects.
- Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the International Head of Sustainability and indirectly to Project Directors.
