Job Description

Assystem Energy & Infrastructure are recruiting for a Project Systems Engineer.

The Project System Engineer (PSE) leads and coordinates the systems engineering activities within a project to ensure that the overall technical solution is coherent, integrated, and aligned to defined requirements. Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Authorities (R2A2) for Project System Engineer (ED20), the PSE is responsible for defining, managing, and controlling project-level requirements and ensuring that engineering outputs across disciplines integrate to form a viable, safe, and deliverable system solution. The PSE provides technical leadership across disciplines, supports structured decision-making, and ensures that engineering scope is defined, traceable, and verifiable throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or demonstrable route toward chartership (desirable depending on project needs).

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience in an engineering design environment where systems thinking and integration are key attributes.
  • Demonstrable experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering coordination activities.
  • Experience defining, capturing, and managing project-level requirements, including functional and derived requirements.
  • Experience facilitating structured requirements and value management workshops.
  • Experience ensuring traceability between requirements, design outputs, and verification strategy.
  • Experience supporting technical optioneering and structured decision-making processes.
  • Experience identifying and managing cross-discipline technical risks and interface risks.
  • Experience developing and maintaining systems-level documentation (e.g., requirement specifications, system architectures, interface control documents).
  • Experience working within regulated or safety-critical environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management capability and ability to build technical consensus.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Systems Engineering accreditation (e.g., INCOSE ASEP/CSEP or equivalent).
  • Formal training in requirements management and verification & validation methodologies.
  • Postgraduate qualification in systems engineering or a related discipline (advantageous).

Desirable Experience

  • Experience operating in a nuclear or highly regulated environment.
  • Experience across multiple lifecycle phases (Appraise, Define, Deliver).
  • Experience supporting hazard identification and ensuring hazards are appropriately addressed within system design.
  • Experience defining verification and validation strategies proportionate to risk and lifecycle phase.
  • Familiarity with Sellafield governance processes and gated lifecycle.
  • Experience working with systems engineering methodologies and tools.

Additional Information

Security Clearance This role requires the successful candidate to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.

Due to the nature of work this role will be delivering and for the protection of certain assets, the successful candidate has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non-ITAR country.
