Role profile

"They are good to deal with and go above and beyond." – Chambers & Partners

We are looking for an Associate to join our market-leading Projects team in Bristol. You will be involved in a variety of infrastructure projects and will be given early responsibility for building client relationships and undertaking business development whilst working in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

The practice

Our Projects team offers clients high-level expertise across the full infrastructure project lifecycle - from initial project procurement or set-up/acquisition, through project development, financing, operations and exit. We have been at the forefront of many of the recent market developments and have an exciting pipeline of work across a variety of sectors.

Our offering is broad. The focus of this Bristol based role is predominantly infrastructure projects (including PPP) and public sector contracts.

In terms of infrastructure PPP projects, we operate in a wide variety of sectors including student accommodation, healthcare, education, defence and transport. We act for equity investors/sponsors, FM contractors, building contractors and lenders.

As a team, we are also involved in public sector contracts. This spans defence, telecoms/broadband, energy efficiency/decentralised energy projects, facilities management, public sector IT and cloud, and wider public sector outsourcing. We regularly work with defence and wider GCA standard terms (including DEFCONs, framework agreements and call-off contracts). We act for a number of global tech businesses and defence prime contractors.

The team

The Projects team is split between Bristol and London with 9 Partners; 1 Legal Director, 5 Associate Directors; 4 Associates; 9 Associates, 6 Trainee Solicitors and 1 Solicitor Apprentice. You will have the opportunity to work directly with a number of Partners in the team who are leaders in their field.

The work

Recent Work Undertaken By Our Projects Team Includes

  • Acting for the Viridis Living consortium (Equitix and Graham) on the University of Manchester's Fallowfield campus PPP project.
  • Acting for the successful Hochtief PPP/Plenary consortium on the contract to design, build, finance, and operate a 700 bed student village for University of Staffordshire.
  • Acting for the successful Acorn consortium (formed of Kajima Partnerships, Sacyr, Aberdeen and Development Bank of Wales) on the Velindre Cancer Centre "Mutual Investment Model" PPP project.
  • Acting for BT/EE on the ground-breaking Home Office Emergency Services Network Project Contract project to provide a next generation communication system for the three emergency services (police, fire and rescue, and ambulance) and other public safety users.
  • Acting on over 60 closed PFI/PPP projects across a range of sectors. For example, we are acting for a number of investors on construction and/or commercial disputes affecting UK social infrastructure PFI projects and on market testing issues particularly in healthcare projects.
  • Acting for bidders on MOD procurements, including the £1.5bn Type 31e frigate design and build contract, and the £1.5bn contract for the provision of training services to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
  • Acting for one of three bidders to provide supercomputers and specialist storage to the Met Office for weather and climate modelling/forecasting. The assets and key supporting digital infrastructure are deemed to be critical national infrastructure and are to be provided on an availability basis over a 10 year operational term.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
