About the Role
As a Projects Officer – Communities, you’ll play a central role in driving a county-wide programme of volunteer-led conservation projects focused on nature recovery and environmental access.
Your core responsibilities include:
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and mobilise a weekly, mobile conservation volunteer team across various sites.
- Coordinate and facilitate practical outdoor activities, ensuring effective delivery of conservation tasks.
- Support and develop existing Friends of Greenspaces groups in South West Hertfordshire, while identifying opportunities to establish new community-led initiatives.
- Plan and schedule work for the Rights of Way (RoW) practical task team, ensuring successful project execution.
- Engage stakeholders (e.g., landowners, user groups, and professional partners) through strong communication and leadership.
- Recruit, train, and motivate local community volunteers, with responsibility for safe, high-quality conservation work.
- Work in remote, often challenging locations—demanding proactive and adaptable problem-solving.

Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in countryside or greenspace management, demonstrating an understanding of diverse sites.
- Volunteer management experience, with excellent organisational and motivational skills.
- Strong time management abilities, including the ability to work independently.
- Outstanding communication (both written and oral) for varied audiences, from community groups to professionals.
- Fluency in IT, including Microsoft Office package competency.
- Driving ability (requirement for a DVLA check on appointment), utilising own or provided vehicles for site access.
Desirable (Where Applicable)
- Previous experience in countryside management, conservation volunteering, or similar roles.
- Familiarity with local government projects or partnership working with grassroots organisations.
