General Summary

Leading the Project Team, the primary role of the Projects Team Manager, including being part of the leadership team, is to act as the first-line management, accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the team. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • People management (allocating daily tasks, managing performance and development, overseeing workflow)
  • Maintaining standards and KPIs
  • Planning and progressing various contracts through functional areas
  • Meeting or exceeding stated goals for achieving required margin and on-time delivery
  • Serving as the point of contact for external customers
  • Pro-actively communicating the latest delivery forecasts

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

(Essential Functions)

On an ongoing basis, the Projects Team Manager must assume full responsibility and be held accountable for the following:

  • Maintain a positive/safe working environment
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team at Hillington Plant
  • Drive positive KPI results, aligning with company values—"doing the right thing"
  • Approach coaching, development, and performance management positively
  • Act as the primary focal point for all contracts under direct control
  • Identify and implement improvements within the function and role
  • Ensure all projects, under direct control, are delivered safely and without incident
  • Manage end-to-end projects and related activities, from contract award to delivery
  • Drive the team to liaise with supporting functions (Commercial, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Shipping) to meet milestones and adhere to the delivery plan
  • Be the functional owner of trade compliance aspects as part of Hillington duties
  • Arrange and support key customer visits and witness activities for projects under control
  • Create and maintain high-level plans for specific contracts, where required
  • Work with supporting functions to resolve issues relating to broadening delivery plans
  • Escalate issues when necessary
  • Manage project changes via the change/variation order process: capture deviations from scope and recover additional costs/identify schedule impacts
  • Oversee project resource allocation and task delegation
  • Highlight bottlenecks/constraints with the Value Stream
  • Conduct internal and external project status reporting
  • Support the bid process as necessary

People Manager Responsibilities

Effective leadership and management of employees to:

  • Drive positive engagement and motivation
  • Create trusted relationships to understand people’s values/aspirations inside/outside work
  • Conduct open and honest coaching to help people identify growth areas/strengths
  • Align personal aspirations and objectives with team/corporate goals
  • Guide career progression (broaden networks, suggest challenging roles)
  • Collaborate with HR to establish/maintain a robust competency matrix and training plans
  • Track and ensure actioning of training/development plans
  • Offer health/well-being support as appropriate and manage sickness absence per company policy (with HR guidance)
  • Understand the performance/development planning process and manage its implementation
  • Support staff panning/forecasting via regular conversations and objective tracking

Education, Skills & Experience

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Strategic partnership focus for driving project delivery plans forward
  • Strong interpersonal/assertive skills: managing conflict, setting standards, working with Team Members & Peers
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills for all levels (internal/external)
  • Proficiency in SAP and Excel for daily use (detailed processes)
  • Strong numeracy and attention to high-level planning/scheduling/project management
  • Proven expertise in building/effectively managing teams with drive and goal-adherence
