Promoting Independence Worker - Permanent, Full-Time (37 hours/week)

[Hybrid] – Welbeck House, Sherwood Energy Village, NG22 9FF (with remote work flexibility)

About the Role

The Promoting Independence Worker role forms part of the Maximising Independence Service (MIS). The service focuses on early intervention, prevention, and enabling independence and well-being for individuals aged 17+ across Newark, Sherwood, and Bassetlaw.

Your core purpose is to support people to achieve meaningful, self-determined goals—whether that means learning to cook, using public transport, accessing social activities, or managing daily living tasks. You’ll work with individuals for up to 12 weeks, applying a strengths-based approach.

Your Work Will Include:

  • Enablement & Reablement – Assessing and supporting people to regain or maintain independence in daily living.
  • Benefits & Community Signposting – Providing tailored advice to access financial and practical support.
  • Equipment & Minor Adaptations – Helping individuals secure suitable aids to support their independence.
  • Carer Support – Offering advice and respite options for unpaid carers.
  • Single-Handed Care Support – Assisting with routine moving and handling assessments.
  • Blue Badge Eligibility – Supporting individuals to apply for and understand their entitlements.
  • Collaborative Working – Partnering with i-work (healthy lifestyles team), other service providers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless support.

Key Responsibilities

Everyday Duties:

  • Assess individual’s current status and jointly set goals to improve independence.
  • Build and sustain relationships with service users and collaborators.
  • Deliver in-home, community, or virtual support while adhering to safeguarding guidance.
  • Monitor progress towards goals and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Liaise with ***i-work ***, physios, occupational therapists, and other specialists to expedite holistic support.
  • Signpost to further services, from housing advice to local community groups.
  • Document support plans and risk assessments using integrated council systems.
  • Offer training and supervision—including basic moving and handling support to carers.

Specialised Tasks:

  • Assist service users with Blue Badge applications (where requested).
  • Provide equipment advice (e.g., shower chairs, kitchen aids) and liaise with local suppliers.
  • Facilitate healthier lifestyles support (in partnership with i-work teams) for service users seeking this.

Person Specification: What You’ll Bring

To thrive in this role, you’ll have:

Essential:

  • Experience in social care, disability support, or similar field—practical or volunteering.
  • Proven relationship-building skills with diverse individuals.
  • An understanding of safeguarding principles, equalities, and Section 1 / MHA principles (where applicable).
  • Sounds judgment and empathy—particularly in collaborative decision-making.
  • Ability to work process-driven with councils’ reporting systems.
  • Ceasing, starting, and documentation experience in basic moving/handling techniques (training provided on inexperienced staff).
  • Disposition for teamwork—valuing input from your multidisciplinary colleagues.

Preferred (but not mandatory):

  • Personal assistant (PA) or domiciliary care experience (if relevant).
  • Basic music with equipment knowledge or a passion to learn.
  • Confidence conducting benefits review and advice tasks (both online and face-to-face).
  • An understanding of local community resources in North Sherwoodshire.

Working Arrangements & Support

  • Hybrid model: You’ll base your work at Welbeck House, NG22 9FF, with flexibility to work from home as required.
  • Regional breadth: Responsible for supporting individuals in Newark, Sherwood, and Bassetlaw.
  • Technology tools:
    • T-tailed systems (casework management).
    • Laptops/tablets as required.
  • Stability: This is a permanent full‐time post (37 hours/week).
