We are Hiring: Property Lawyer
Location: Surrey
Contract: 03 Aug 2026 – 30 Nov 2026
IR35: Inside IR35
Rate: Euro 55 per hour
Hybrid working role – The Council operates a flexible working environment. The role holder may work remotely but will be required to attend Council offices, meetings, hearings, and proceedings when required. Occasional travel and attendance outside core hours may be necessary.
Job Summary
The Senior Lawyer will provide expert legal advice and support to the County Council, elected members, officers, and committees. The role involves managing a complex caseload, providing advocacy where required, supervising junior lawyers, and contributing to the development and improvement of Legal Services.

The post holder will help deliver a modern, efficient legal service by reducing reliance on external legal providers, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring the Council operates lawfully and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist legal advice on complex and sensitive matters.
- Manage a varied caseload independently with minimal supervision.
- Undertake advocacy and represent the Council in hearings/proceedings where required.
- Support the Monitoring Officer on legal compliance and procedural matters.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor junior lawyers.
- Assist in managing legal teams, resources, and workloads.
- Contribute to legal service improvement, policies, and process development.
- Advise senior stakeholders, officers, and elected members.
- Monitor legal expenditure and support effective budget management.
- Maintain accurate records using electronic case management systems.

Essential Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent legal professional.
- Significant post-qualification experience in a relevant legal discipline.
- Experience handling complex legal matters independently.
- Strong knowledge of legal procedures, legislation, and case law.
- Experience supervising or mentoring legal professionals.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality legal advice.
