If you’re looking to take an exciting new direction with your HSBC career, an internal move can open the door to many opportunities, allowing you to take on a new challenge, and develop your skills. Bring your knowledge of our brand to a new role and grow yourself further.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Proposition Manager.

first direct’s built on doing things differently — and we’re looking for someone who can help us grow even smarter. As Proposition Manager, you’ll own our acquisition strategy across paid, owned and partner channels, hitting current account growth targets while keeping Cost per Acquisition (CPA) efficient and sustainable. You’ll also spot opportunities to bring more ‘New to Bank’ customers into other products where it genuinely improves outcomes and performance.

A move across the business allows you to continue to access tailored professional development opportunities, and our fantastic benefits packages.

In this role you will:

  • Own and evolve the current account acquisition plan to deliver volumes in line with Financial Resource Planning (FRP), within CPA targets
  • Run a clear performance cadence (weekly/monthly) with actions, decisions and risks called out early
  • Build and deliver a test-and-learn roadmap across audiences, offers, creative and landing journeys to lift conversion and efficiency
  • Partner with Risk to understand scorecards and optimise the balance between approval rates and customer quality
  • Work with Digital/Journeys/Product to improve the application journey (drop-off, speed, clarity, eligibility and Identification & Verification)
  • Build a partner pipeline (affiliates, aggregators and strategic partners) that adds incremental, high-quality growth
  • Identify and size opportunities to acquire into other lines of business (or cross-sell post-acquisition) with product owners
  • Lead cross-functional delivery across Marketing, Digital, Analytics, Finance, Ops and agency/partner teams

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Confidence working with data and performance reporting (you don’t need to be a data scientist, but you do need to be data-led)
  • Solid stakeholder management — able to align Marketing, Product, Risk, Ops and external partners without drama
  • Practical understanding of customer journeys and optimisation levers (landing pages, eligibility flows, drop-off drivers, Identification & Verification)
  • Partner/affiliate experience (or the curiosity and structure to build it quickly) with a focus on incremental quality growth would be an advantage
