Protection Technical Specialist - Tax & Trust
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: London
Working Style: Hybrid - 50% from home / 50% office based
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Protection Technical Tax and Trust Specialist to join our Protection Proposition Team at Royal London. You will provide accurate and timely tax and trust technical expertise, through communication, training, development and coaching to internal and external customers (advisers and internal colleagues) for personal and business protection customers. This role will work closely with Product Owners and Proposition Analysts in our Protection Proposition team, and the wider business (group operations and long-standing customers) using up to date legislative and regulatory developments to ensure products and propositions meet the needs of customers and financial advisers, as well as provide thought leadership content for PR and Marketing purposes.
More About the Role:
- Accountable for the day-to-day provision of high-quality technical support to advisers and internal customers including on:
- Trusts – personal and business. To ensure that the trust proposition is fit for purpose by regular reviews.
- Tax – including inheritance tax planning. To ensure that tax knowledge is up to date.
- All aspects of High Net Worth. To support Distribution with their queries and conversations on business and personal protection.
- Internal customers will include Distribution, Proposition, Group Operations and Long-Standing Customers.
- Ownership of Technical queries submitted to Tax and Trust Mailbox.
- Attend Distribution team meetings to provide training and help support the development of our business development managers.
- Represent Royal London as a subject matter expert on Protection for both internal and external customers including:
- Developing strong business relationships with internal and external customers.
- Analyse, understand and communicate impact of legislative and regulatory changes on Protection Proposition.
- Provide articles on tax, estate planning, and wealth management for Technical Central and IHT hub.
- To provide support in the creation, development, and review of our protection proposition products.
- To review and provide sign off for all trust related product documentation, sales support documents, presentations, webpage pages for internal customers.
- Use expertise to support distribution colleagues in achieving new business targets.
- Prioritise customer outcomes and business value by using appropriate tools and techniques.

What you will bring to the role:
- Relevant work experience and/or equivalent professional qualifications.
- Good knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry and the legislative framework.
- Strong knowledge of the technical aspects of Protection Propositions.
- Good understanding of the regulatory environment and government policy in relation to Protection.
- STEP qualified is an advantage.
- Knowledge and understanding of the commercial environment facing product providers.
- Ability to understand and communicate on a wide range of technical aspects.
- Ability to consider how technical changes over time impact our Products and Propositions.
- Ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Excellent planning, management, and organisational skills.
