Prototype Technician
Entry-Level Trainee Prototype Technician – SGX, Newcastle
About the Role

As part of the Propelis group, SGX empowers brands with innovative solutions across brand creative, packaging, print, and content production.
We’re seeking a Trainee Prototype Technician in Newcastle to join a dynamic team and develop hands-on skills in packaging prototyping, artwork creation, and customer sample production. This is a entry-level position, perfect for those passionate about packaging, design, and hands-on creative work.
You’ll train under experienced team members while gaining expertise in packaging construction, Adobe Creative Suite, and production processes. Ideal candidates thrive in fast-paced environments, are willing to learn quickly, and enjoy collaborative creative problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in producing packaging mock-ups, prototypes, and customer samples
- Support artwork application on cartons, labels, sleeves, and other packaging formats
- Learn to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for artwork preparation
- Operate cutting equipment, printers, laminators, and finishing tools
- Build and assemble packaging samples to customer/in-house standards
- Prepare materials and components for prototype development
- Support customer presentations and innovation projects
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised prototype studio environment
- Study packaging materials, print processes, and finishing techniques
- Collaborate with designers and development teams on creative solutions

Key Skills & Attributes: Essential
- Strong interest in packaging, graphics, design, or creative production
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Practical, hands-on approach to work

- Basic computer literacy

- Ability to manage time effectively and follow instructions
Desirable
- Basic experience with Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
- Interest in packaging, print, or design
- Background in art, design, graphics, or engineering
- Relevant experience from college projects, coursework, or hobbies (e.g., model making, creative production)
