Through the joint-venture project, we are at the forefront of transforming higher education in India. Building on our success of delivering impactful courses from the world’s best universities to students and executives globally, we now have an exciting opportunity to bring world-class universities directly to India through a strategic government policy that encourages international universities to establish branch campuses in the country.

In 2026, Emeritus partnered with seven global universities to open state-of-the-art, new university campuses across India. Our partners are:

  • University of York
  • University of Liverpool
  • University of Bristol
  • University of Aberdeen
  • University of New South Wales
  • Victoria University
  • Illinois Institute of Technology

In 2027 we will be partnering with several additional higher education institutions to open a branch campus in India. We are seeking academics who are interested in learning more about leading these new joint-ventures!

The Opportunity

We are seeking dynamic and visionary academic leaders (Heads of School / Associate Professors / Deans) who are eager to step into a Provost role at one of our upcoming university campuses in India. This is a unique chance to shape the future of higher education in India.

You will:

  • Lead the academic vision and strategic development of a new campus, driving strategic and academic planning for the India campus and ensuring alignment with the home University’s priorities, as well as fostering excellence in teaching, research, and curriculum development.
  • Manage oversight of the delivery of the university’s physical and digital infrastructure plans through the coordination of delivery of major programmes and associated financial performance.
  • Bring a strong academic reputation and credibility to the role, ensuring academic quality and integrity through compliance with home campus standards and Indian regulations, while leading reviews, accreditations, and audits.
  • Lead on the delivery of the University strategy, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and with the deans in aligning faculty strategies to the University’s strategic aims.
  • Take strategic oversight of the career development and remuneration framework for academic staffing to ensure the University is an employer of choice for outstanding academic staff.
  • Lead on university-wide medium-term resource allocation and planning, working closely with the faculty deans and COO as the University’s budget holders.
  • Be an active role model for excellent and inclusive leadership and on-the ground engagement with senior leaders and colleagues across the university.
  • Oversee the delivery of an exceptional student experience through strong academic support, inclusive practices, and a focus on outcomes such as retention, satisfaction, and employability.
  • Ensure compliance with Indian and the home University’s academic regulations, while cultivating strong ties with regulatory bodies, academic networks, and representing the campus in key external forums.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent terminal qualification) from a recognised institution.
  • Evidence of significant academic achievement and scholarly credibility appropriate for appointment as Provost, with extensive senior leadership experience within higher education, such as Provost, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Vice-President, Dean, Associate Provost, or equivalent.
  • Planning, budgeting, and organizational leadership.
  • Established track record in advancing high-quality teaching, research, and innovation; experience in curriculum development, academic policy, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance and accreditation standards.
  • In-depth understanding of global and national higher education systems, including familiarity with Indian regulatory bodies (e.g., UGC, NEP), and experience navigating accreditation and policy frameworks.
  • Strong strategic vision with experience aligning institutional priorities, launching new initiatives or campuses, and engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders through excellent communication and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated inclusive and collaborative leadership, committed to continuous improvement, personal and professional development, and fostering a culture of respect, equality, and diversity.
