Who we are
Institutional Retirement is the only insurer to have been operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987 to the present day. Our UK retirement annuity book stands at an estimated £86.1 billion at 31 December 2023.
Across our retail and institutional retirement businesses, we look after more than 1 million customers, around c.700,000 of whom are institutional customers who have had their retirement benefits secured with us.
Job Description
We’re looking for a Transitions Director to join our Award-Winning Pension Risk Transfer business.
This is a senior, client-facing role where you’ll bring deep Defined Benefit pensions knowledge, strong implementation experience and the confidence to work with Trustees, Sponsors, Advisers and Internal Stakeholders.
You’ll play a key part in shaping client servicing propositions, leading on complex implementation activity and making sure that customers receive consistently good outcomes.

This is a hybrid working opportunity, which will allow you to work flexibly between your home and the office, to help you find a work-life balance that works for you.
What you'll be doing:
- Providing technical expertise across legal, regulatory, reinsurance, product development and operational matters
- Owning tailored servicing responses for RFQs and supporting new business opportunities
- Leading client and customer servicing content in pitches and finals presentations
- Understanding prospective clients, their de-risking plans and scheme-specific onboarding needs
- Managing end-to-end implementation activity for large and complex PRT transactions
- Producing clear documentation and MI to support governance, progress tracking and decision making
- Completing post-implementation reviews with Trustees, Advisers and Administrators
- Supporting with the development of pensions technical, transition and onboarding capability across the team
Who we're looking for:
- Pensions qualification (such as PMI) or equivalent practical experience is essential. With Project Management Qualification (such as PRINCE2) also highly desirable
- Strong experience administering, transitioning or onboarding Defined Benefit pension schemes
- In-depth knowledge of Pension Risk Transfer, including buy-ins and buy-outs
- Strong understanding of DB pension regulations, wind-up requirements and related customer impacts
- Experience presenting to Trustees, Advisers and other Senior External Stakeholders
- Strong project management, organisation and prioritisation skills
- Ability to work confidently with complex data, benefit calculations and operational processes
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to influence across complex Stakeholder groups
