About the Role
NHS Grampian is seeking a reliable Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to reinforce the team at Dr Gray’s Hospital. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an expanding consultant tier following a service review.
The doctor will serve as a core member of the anaesthetic department, set within Scotland’s smallest District General Hospital. This position suits those interested in Remote and Rural Anaesthesia across the North of Scotland or Highlands and Islands—flexibility is encouraged!

Key Accountabilities
- Deliver high-quality anaesthetic care aligned with NHS standards.
- Support service development and expansion within Dr Gray’s Hospital.
- Engage in provisional review outcomes, embedding a consultant-led model.
- Promote patient safety, clinical excellence, and continuous professional development.
- Participate in rural/remote/regional anaesthesia opportunities if applicable.
- Contribute to service innovation where possible.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Full registration with a licence to practice (Issued by the General Medical Council). Must be active prior to appointment commencement.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum current clinical experience commensurate with consultant-level anaesthetic practice.
- Experience in rural, remote, or under-served populations is an asset (but not mandatory).
- Adaptability, strong leadership, and a collaboration-first mindset.
- Commitment to supporting a growing consultant tier and service within urban/suburban hospital settings.
