Senior Charge Nurse – Ward 6 Acute Medicine

Band 7 | Full time (36 hours) | Dr Gray’s Hospital

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and compassionate Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) to lead our dynamic 30-bedded Acute Medical Ward within Medicine and Unscheduled care at Dr Gray’s Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead a highly committed team in a ward environment that is fast-paced, complex and often extremely busy, to improve, delivery and maintain high-quality care to patients with a wide range of acute medical needs.

The Role

The post holder will provide visible, clinical and professional leadership to the ward team, ensuring safe, effective and person-centred care at all times.

The post holder will be responsible for

Overall leadership and operational management of the ward Delivering high –quality, evidence-based patient care Ensuring safe staffing and effective workforce utilisation Leading quality improvement, governance and patient safety initiatives Supporting, developing and inspiring nursing and multi-disciplinary teams Maintaining a strong focus on patient experience and communication with families

The SCN will play a pivotal role in ensuring the ward responds effectively to the pressures of unscheduled care, maintaining patient flow, while upholding clinical standards. The role requires a leader who thrives in a busy, pressurised environment and can maintain calm, oversight and direction.

Key Responsibilities

Provide clinical and professional leadership Ensure safe staffing levels, effective rostering and escalation of workforce risks in line with local and national frameworks Lead on clinical governance, patient safety and learning from adverse events Drive continuous improvement and implementation of best practice Foster a positive team culture focussed on support, learning and accountability Maintain effective communication with patients and families, ensuring compassionate care

Key Worker Housing Support

Moray Council are offering temporary accommodation for key workers moving to Moray to support recruitment in the public sector, including NHS roles. This opportunity is designed to help individuals who are unable to secure housing locally while starting their new job.

Applicants must be filling a public sector role such as NHS healthcare professionals eg Consultants, Nurses, Physiotherapists where local skills shortages exist.

You must be moving to Moray from outside the area and must be willing to accept a Short Scottish Secure Tenancy (SSST), which is a temporary housing arrangement.

Key worker points will be awarded based on employer confirmation of recruitment need, and housing will be provided for a minimum of six months, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. This accommodation option allows applicants time to secure permanent housing while addressing local recruitment challenges.
