BERMUDA. COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRIC NURSE (INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES) - relocation required

IMS is seeking an experienced COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRIC NURSE (INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES).

The Community Psychiatric Nurse is responsible for providing training and purposeful activities that meet the needs of people with learning disabilities. The incumbent will provide support and crisis intervention for families and guardians who presently live at home with their learning disabled relative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops a range of meaningful activities in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team for Service Users to enjoy including training, leisure and employment opportunities and facilitate the Community Care Workers to implement these activities
  • Liaise with other members of community learning disability team to assess their needs, implement support plans and evaluate their effectiveness
  • Act as a case manager to develop programmes for designated individuals or groups of Service users
  • Provides ‘hands on’ skill training and job coaching for Service Users and staff
  • Assist in orientation programmes for staff working in the community
  • Arrange and escort Service User to all appointments i.e., medical, dental etc.
  • Order medication for community homes and administer medication when necessary
  • Collaborate with the Community Learning Disability Team, develop new policies and procedures aimed at improving the current services

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing from an accredited university required.
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • 3 years of experience working in a community mental health setting
  • Certificate in Community Learning Disability Nursing or equivalent, preferred
  • Certification in CPR, Code Management, and NCI
  • Eligible for registration with the Bermuda Nursing Council
  • Valid car driver's license
