Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

Job Opportunity: Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

Job Overview

We are seeking a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join our diverse and expanding Talking Therapies Team in Barking & Dagenham.

Essential Criteria:

  • Only apply if you are:
    • A new IAPT-certified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner
    • An experienced Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (with IAPT certification in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions)
  • Preceptorship opportunities are available for practitioners nearing the completion of their training.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based low-intensity CBT interventions for patients with mild-to-moderate anxiety and depression, both remotely and face-to-face.
  • Support the delivery of our group therapy programmes.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Trust policies.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • Work both individually (following professional guidelines) and collaboratively within a team framework.

Role & Team Environment

  • Blended working model: Mix of office and home-based work.
  • Permanent position with a one late evening shift per week (12pm–8pm).
  • Supported by:
    • Daily duty clinician oversight
    • Weekly case management supervision
    • Group clinical skills supervision
    • Peer-led reflective wellbeing sessions
    • Specialised LTC and group supervision
  • In-house training programme (monthly sessions for advanced topics such as PTSD, grief, and health anxiety).
  • Opportunities for external team training based on PWP input regarding skill gaps.

Team Structure

  • Step 2 Team (Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Focus):
    • 1x PWP Lead, 4x Senior PWPs, qualified PWPs, and therapy assistants.
    • Wider team includes Counsellors, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, physical activity coordinators, and employment advisors.
  • Key responsibilities:
    • Offer low-intensity CBT via guided self-help (6–8 sessions).
    • Preferred: Interest/experience in facilitating group therapy sessions (collaborative co-facilitation with Step 3 clinicians).

Community & Engagement

  • Active engagement with the community, including:
    • Attendance at community events
    • Participation in psychoeducational workshops
  • Encouraged involvement in Special Interest Groups (SIGs), e.g., Long Term Conditions (LTCs), perinatal mental health, and LGBTQI+.

Training & Development

  • Opportunities for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) through:
    • UCL-based training (e.g., PWP supervision training, working with LTCs).
    • Focus on career progression and skill development in line with Trust values.

Registration & Requirements

  • Must hold a BABCP/BPS-accredited Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner certificate (or be working towards accreditation).

Starting with NELFT

Induction Process

  • All new starters undergo a two-week induction (held monthly on the first Monday).
  • Includes:
    • Mandatory training and system familiarisation
    • Meeting the Executive Team & Senior Management
    • Drop-in sessions on:
      • Engagement processes
      • Health & Wellbeing
      • Key operational processes

Working Conditions & Pay

  • Permanent position
  • High Cost Area Supplement (15% of basic salary):
    • [$4,870–£6,137 pa. (pro rata for part-time employees)**]
  • CQC-rated "Good" Trust, with ongoing commitment towards Outstanding status.
