Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – SEND Support (Temporary)

About the Role
Five Education is seeking compassionate Psychology Graduates with a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This crucial temporary role offers an outstanding opportunity to gain practical, specialised experience in a secure, well-resourced SEND school in Bristol.
The school works with students who have a wide range of needs, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, speech and language needs, and learning disabilities. The role will involve:
- Supporting pupils to access learning through individualised plans (EHCPs).
- Developing emotional regulation, communication, and social skills.
- Building meaningful relationships to create a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Assisting teachers with differentiation, behaviour management, and structured interventions.
This position is particularly suitable for Psychology graduates (or related fields) looking to transition into education, therapy, social work, or clinical practice. It provides hands-on experience in a supportive, high-impact setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 or small-group support, tailored to each pupil’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Work with students to boost confidence, manage emotions, and improve social interaction and communication skills.
- Help teachers adapt lessons to cater for diverse learning needs, including SLD/PMLD (Specific Learning Difficulties/Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) and autism.
- Foster positive, trusting relationships to help pupils thrive academically and emotionally.

What Meets OurRequirements
Essential Qualifications
- A degree in Psychology (or a related field such as education, social sciences, therapy, or clinical practice).
- Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship or Skilled Worker visa options available).
- Full-time availability: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
- Two references (issued in the last two years).
- Updated DBS check registered on the DBS Update Service. If none, a new check can be arranged at your cost (reimbursed after 20 days of employment).
Note: As part of the recruitment process, you will undergo: ✔ Reference checks ✔ Train, Respect, Act (‘TRA’) safeguarding training ✔ Disclosure & Barring Service (‘DBS’) check
