Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Primary Special School
Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain practical experience supporting children with special educational needs? This welcoming primary special school in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team and provide targeted support to pupils with additional learning needs. This is an ideal role for an aspiring educational or clinical psychologist, offering hands-on experience before further training.
The Role
Salary: £85 – £100 per day Duration: September 2026 – July 2027 Location: Primary Special School, Birmingham Focus: Supporting children with special educational needs (SEN)

- Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and classroom teachers to support pupils with:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Speech and language difficulties
- Deliver 1-to-1 and small group interventions
- Provide in-class support to help create an inclusive learning environment
- Assist in fostering progress and emotional wellbeing for all children

Required skills, qualities, and background:
This role is perfect for a Psychology graduate who is:
- Empathetic, patient, and committed to helping children with disabilities or learning challenges thrive
- A strong communicator, capable of:
- Working collaboratively with staff teams
- Building trusting relationships with pupils
- Possesses a genuine interest in pursuing a career in psychology or education—training and mentorship will be provided

Experience:
- Previous experience working with children (particularly in an SEN context) is highly valued but not essential.
