About the Team
Our Cloud Platform team is a well-established engineering group at the heart of one of the UK’s biggest financial-services transformations. We’re modernising the bank’s next-generation cloud platform, partnering with business and product teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions for:
- Analytics
- GenAI / Machine Learning
- Databases
- Application workloads
Our remit is broad:
- Product curation
- Data-warehousing capabilities
- Landing-zone engineering
- Automation
- Embedding AI into cloud workflows to improve developer experience, quality and efficiency
About the Role We're building a cloud platform that is:

This role focuses on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and we’re particularly interested in people with experience in:
- GCP Analytics, AI, Databases & Serverless products
- Networking, security, Identity and Access Management (IAM) & platform engineering
- Terraform
- CI/CD (Harness / GitHub Actions)
- Python
- Git workflows
- Backstage
- Policy-as-Code (Open Policy Agent)
- Security tooling (Organisation Policy, Security Health Analytics, Wiz)
- Dynatrace
Knowledge of multi-agent AI systems is also desirable.
We're looking for a Cloud Engineer with strong GCP experience, building end-to-end infrastructure solutions for engineering teams across the Group. You’ll:
- Drive automation across deployments and operations
- Take part in an out-of-hours support rota

Design, build and maintain:
- Secure, scalable GCP infrastructure foundations
- IAM policy
- Key management
- Network patterns (Private Service Connect (PSC)/Private Service Access (PSA))
- Observability for services such as:
- BigQuery
- Composer
- Vertex AI
- AlloyDB
- Spanner
- Cloud Run

Build and maintain:
- Reusable Terraform modules
- Automated deployment patterns for:
- Analytics
- AI/ML
- Databases
- Serverless products

Develop CI/CD pipelines using:
- Harness CI
- Python

Translate threat-model and policy requirements into:
- Policy-as-code guardrails (e.g., Wiz / Rego / Custom Org Policy / Common Expression Language (CEL))

Create and evolve:
- Self-service Golden Paths via Backstage templates
- Scaffolding
- Documentation
- Automation hooks

Partner with:
- Security
- Risk
- Architecture
- Delivery teams
- Aim for compliance with regulated-industry standards
- Maintain engineering pace

Improve operational excellence across:
- Monitoring
- Incident response
- Problem management
- Cost optimization
- Reliability
- Participate in out-of-hours (OOH) support

Prototype and productionise:
- GenAI and agentic-AI automation
- E.g., AI-assisted deployments, documentation generation, policy reasoning
- Tools: Gemini on GCP and Copilot Studio

Participate in:
- Agile ceremonies
- Continuous workflow, tool, and process improvement
Essential Skills & Experience
- Platform Engineering experience with a consistent record of:
- Delivering and operating solutions on GCP
- Hands-on experience:
- Designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines
- GitHub Actions, Harness, or similar tools
- Understanding:
- Configuration-management tools for infrastructure automation and policy enforcement
- Expertise in:
- Terraform
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Proficiency in at least one:
- Programming/scripting language (Python, Go, Bash)
- Ability to:
- Take ownership of features and products through to successful delivery
- Experience:
- Cloud-service products through their lifecycle
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to:
- Explain technical concepts clearly to varied audiences
- Comfortable working in a:
- Fast-paced, dynamic, evolving environment
