Public Cloud Network Lead
Public Cloud Network Lead
Location: London
Join us at Barclays as a Public Cloud Network Lead, responsible for architecting, implementing, and operating enterprise-grade multi-cloud network infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
This hands-on senior technical role bridges strategic planning and operational execution, requiring you to:
- Design secure, high-performance hybrid/multi-cloud architectures connecting global cloud regions to Barclays' on-premises infrastructure.
- Collaborate with GTIS Networks, SRE, DevOps, Product, and leadership to deliver high-impact initiatives.
- Escalate and resolve critical network incidents, mentor engineers, and drive automation via Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices.
### Key Responsibilities

Multi-Cloud & Hybrid Networking
- Lead architecture, implementation, and operation of enterprise-scale multi-cloud networks.
- Design and manage hybrid connectivity (MACsec/IPsec), encrypted interconnects, and circuit-provider management.
- Collaborate on legacy infrastructure modernisation via IaC.

Security & Compliance
- Implement Zero Trust segmentation and cloud-native firewall controls.
- Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS, DORA, and internal governance frameworks.

Strategic Planning & Stakeholder Engagement
- Define cloud network strategy and evaluate emerging technologies.
- Produce ADRs (Architecture Decision Records), HLDs (High-Level Designs), and LLDs (Low-Level Designs).
- Guide senior stakeholders on risk, cost optimisation, and scaling.

Operational Excellence
- Own incident escalation, SLA/SLO monitoring, and flow analysis.
- Enable SRE best practices for reliability and efficiency.

Automation & DevOps
- Develop reusable Terraform, CloudFormation, and Bicep templates with CI/CD pipelines.
- Orchestrate Python/Bash automation for network provisioning.

### Key Skills (Required)
- Multi-Cloud Architecture: Proficiency across AWS (Direct Connect, Transit Gateway), Azure VPN/Gateway, and GCP’s Cloud Interconnect.
- Hybrid Connectivity: Expertise in VPNs, Direct Connect, SD-WAN, and encrypted network links.
- Security & Compliance: Hands-on experience with Zero Trust, MACsec/IPsec, and regulatory frameworks (PCI-DSS, DORA).
- Infrastructure as Code: Near-native fluency in Terraform, CloudFormation, and Bicep for IaC deployment.
- Network Automation: Scripting in Bash/Python for operations and COTS tooling (DDOS, QoS).
- Stakeholder Influence: Ability to advocate for cloud strategy and drive technical decision-making.
- Incident Orchestration: Proven record of handling critical network outages with minimal SLA breach impact.
### Desirable Skills
- Cloud Certifications: AWS Advanced Networking (Specialty), Azure Network Engineer (Associate), or GCP Network Engineer (Professional).
- Kubernetes & Service Mesh: Experience with CNCF tools (Istio, Linkerd), Calico, Cilium, and multi-cluster management.
- High-Performance Networking: Knowledge of RDMA, HPC, and ultra-low-latency solutions for financial applications.
- Cost Optimisation: FinOps practice, reservation/spot instance strategy, and private VS public networking cost modelling.
- Zero Trust & SD-WAN/SASE: Familiarity with Tetration (Cisco Secure Workloads) and Zscaler architectures.
### Role Accountabilities

Build Engineering: Deliver scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure solutions via automation and IaC.
- Partner with product teams to align infrastructure with business requirements.
- Continuously optimise for cost-efficiency without sacrificing performance.

Incident Management & MTTR Reduction:
- Proactively monitor network health, metrics, and outage investigations.
- Drive a data-driven incident response culture with collaboration between SRE and DevOps.

Security Hardening:
- Implement network segmentation, NAC, and cloud-native security policies.
- Conduct penetration test reminders for zero-trust and compliance readiness.

Technical Leadership:
- Mentor junior engineers in hybrid cloud and IaC adoption.
- Lead multi-year initiatives, such as migrating legacy on-prem fabrics to multi-cloud.
