What You’ll Be Doing
This role sits at the heart of the bank’s cloud modernisation, working within a large‑scale Google Cloud Platform environment that underpins digital journeys, data capabilities and emerging Generative AI workloads. As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll help shape the cloud foundations that enable the organisation to operate securely, scale efficiently and innovate responsibly. Your work will directly influence how cloud infrastructure evolves across the bank, with the opportunity to contribute to platform direction, engineering standards and the broader adoption of modern cloud practices.
- Design, build and optimise GCP infrastructure using a wide range of cloud services, alongside delivering Infrastructure‑as‑Code through Terraform and modular design patterns.
- Develop automation using tools such as Python, Bash or Groovy, and work with structured data formats including JSON and YAML.
- Play a key role in evolving the CI/CD ecosystem across technologies such as Jenkins, Harness and GitHub, while working with Kubernetes (GKE) and modern deployment approaches to support scalable, resilient platforms.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, Systems, Architecture and Software Engineering teams to deliver secure, automated and high‑quality cloud solutions within strong control, compliance and security frameworks.
- Contribute to engineering quality through code reviews, design input and full lifecycle ownership, while also helping to guide and support more junior team members.
- Be part of a wider operational model, including participation in an on‑call support rota and occasional out‑of‑hours work, ensuring the reliability and performance of critical cloud services that support the bank’s core operations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
