About The Role

Public Health Analyst - Apprentice (Level 7)

Level 1 (Dorset Council Grade 10) - Fixed term

Do you want to further your career as an analyst while making a difference to health and wellbeing in local communities?

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Intelligence Team as a Public Health Analyst and, at the same time, complete the Level 7 Health & Care Intelligence Specialist Apprenticeship.

What's In It For You

You will join a forward-thinking Public Health service that works across health improvement, healthy places, health protection and healthcare public health to prevent ill health, promote wellbeing and tackle health inequalities for Dorset's 380,000 residents. You'll spend most of your time working on analytical projects within a collaborative public health intelligence team, where you will contribute to evidence, insight and decision-making that supports Dorset residents' health and wellbeing.

The Level 7 apprenticeship attached to this role is designed for analysts who want to grow into a more senior role. You'll have dedicated time each week for off-the-job learning. Find out more about the apprenticeship offer on The JGA website.

You will also benefit from hybrid working, with office attendance one day a week or as business need demands, plus the chance to work across organisational boundaries with partners including the Integrated Care Board, local authorities and other statutory and voluntary organisations. This blend of analyst experience alongside structured training makes the role a strong platform for someone who wants to build a long-term career in public health intelligence.

What You Can Expect To Be Doing

As a Public Health Analyst, you will work as part of the Intelligence Team and contribute to the development of robust analytics and insight to improve understanding of health and wellbeing. Your work will help support decision-making across a range of Public Health programmes and topics.

In practice, you can expect to:

  • Be working with a range of stakeholders to understand requirements and help scope analytical projects
  • Collect, manipulate, analyse and present data using appropriate analytical and visualisation methods
  • Produce clear reports, dashboards, visualisations and narratives tailored to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Maintain data quality, integrity and security, following GDPR and wider information governance requirements;
  • Collaborate as part of a supportive team and contribute to cross-organisational projects with partner agencies.

One day a week, you will undertake protected apprenticeship learning. The apprenticeship course is designed to apply directly to real workplace challenges, so the work you complete in your analyst role will compliment your learning aims.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
