Starting Salary: £34,434 progressing to £37,280 per annum (pro rata for part-time) – Pay award pending Hours: 37 (per week) Location: Stevenage – Hybrid Contract Type: Permanent Directorate: Public Health
About The Team
You’ll join a small, collaborative Public Health Corporate Services team at the heart of governance, strategy, and service delivery. This team ensures consistency, resilience, and coordination across governance, compliance, digital systems, finance, and performance. Operating closely with senior leaders, they provide insight and oversight to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement in a supportive yet standards-driven environment.
About The Role
The Public Health Corporate Services Officer will be pivotal in enhancing the team’s capacity and resilience. Supporting governance, digital, and financial functions, as well as risk management, learning, and development, performance monitoring, and oversight coordination, this role ensures robust systems, processes, and best-practice frameworks are embedded across all Public Health portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure smooth operation of the end-to-end decision-making process for the Public Health Research and Evaluation Ethics Committee, guaranteeing compliance with standards and timelines.
- Lead and maintain governance systems, including the Public Health Governance Tracker, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to compliance requirements.
- Oversee the management and development of the Herts Directory on behalf of Public Health, updating and coordinating directory-related procedures.
- Promote governance compliance across Public Health through engagement, policy alignment, and targeted communications with teams.
- Develop and sustain key collaborative relationships, particularly with senior leaders and Executive Support teams, to facilitate effective governance processes.
- Apply deep organisational knowledge to assist with evidence-based decision-making and strategic alignment in governance frameworks.

About You
Candidates should have:
Minimum Requirements:
- A recognised vocational qualification (or equivalent experience) plus practical experience in a relevant field, or a graduate background with proven hands-on skills.
- Significant experience in supporting corporate services, demonstrating a proactive, high-standard approach.
- Insight into the organisational political landscape, as well as knowledge of the strategic objectives and key roles within Public Health.
- Experience working in a Public Health environment (preferred).
- Experience demonstrating:
- Independence and self-direction – ability to own tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through with commitments.
- Multi-tasking and stakeholder coordination – managing complex schedules and competing priorities with precision and attention to detail, ensuring robust record-keeping and governance monitoring.
- Strong working relationships with executive stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication skills for engagement across all levels of the organisation.
Desirable Qualities:
- A passion for organisational effectiveness, governance, and continuous improvement.
- Drive, adaptability, and enthusiasm for building expertise in governance through rapid upskilling.
- Transferable skills such as coordination, stakeholder management, or complex information handling — même if cultivated outside a formal governance setting.
- Project experience, including timeline coordination, progress tracking, and cross-functional collaboration.
