An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Midwife to join our maternity leadership team as Public Health Lead Midwife.
This role will provide strategic and operational leadership for public health priorities across maternity services, supporting the delivery of evidence-based care that improves outcomes for women, babies and families. Working closely with the Transformation Lead Midwife, senior leadership team, service users and partner organisations, you will play a key role in driving improvements in public health, reducing health inequalities and promoting equitable access to maternity services.
As a visible public health champion, you will support the integration of health promotion into everyday maternity care across hospital and community settings. You will lead key workstreams including smoking cessation in pregnancy, immunisation and vaccination uptake, healthy lifestyle promotion, nutrition and weight management, while supporting collaborative work with local authorities and wider partners to deliver the Best Start in Life agenda. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife with a passion for public health, quality improvement and service development to make a tangible difference to population health outcomes.
The Public Health Lead Midwife will lead and support the delivery of key public health priorities across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal pathways, ensuring that national and local public health objectives are embedded throughout maternity services. The post holder will provide expert leadership and support for staff, promoting evidence-based health promotion practices and ensuring high-quality, person-centred care.

Key responsibilities include:
- Leading programmes relating to smoking cessation and tobacco dependency in pregnancy
- Increasing vaccination uptake
- Promoting healthy lifestyles
- Supporting initiatives that address health inequalities
The successful candidate will use data, audit findings and quality improvement methodologies to identify opportunities for improvement, evaluate outcomes and drive sustainable change across services.
The role will involve working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP), local authorities and wider stakeholders to ensure services are inclusive, responsive and co-produced with service users. You will also contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, policies and care pathways, design and deliver education and training programmes, represent the Trust at regional forums, and provide professional leadership and expert advice to support continuous improvement in public health outcomes across maternity services.
