Public Health Practitioner (Fixed Term – 12 Months)

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and skilled Public Health Practitioner to join the Adult Health Improvement team in the Public Health & Wellbeing directorate at North Northamptonshire Council.
This is an exciting time to join a friendly, forward-thinking and ambitious team committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our residents and reducing health inequalities across North Northamptonshire.

Additional Information
Contract: Fixed term – 12 months
Closing date: Wednesday 15th July 2026
Interviews: Expected to be held during the week commencing Monday 27th July 2026.
Location: North Northamptonshire Council, Kettering office (hybrid working)

What Will You Be Doing?
As a Public Health Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering and shaping evidence-based public health programmes and interventions for eat and move for good health.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and delivery of health improvement initiatives, including:
- Supporting people to eat well and maintain a healthy weight
- Encouraging physical activity and lifestyle changes
- Support strategic planning and whole-system approaches guided by Health Needs Assessments
- Help embed prevention across council services
- Work collaboratively with partners across health, social care, voluntary, and community sectors
- Provide technical and system-wide expertise within Adult Health Improvement – Healthy Weight and Physical Activity
- Focus on developing partnerships to improve public health outcomes, particularly in:
- Healthy weight management
- Eating well
- Increasing physical activity among adults
- Contribute to increasing engagement in lifestyle services, particularly in priority populations experiencing health inequalities

About You
We are looking for motivated individuals with:
- Relevant experience in public health, health improvement, or related fields
- Knowledge of:
- Evidence-based practice
- Population health approaches
- Understanding of lifestyle risk factors, including:
- Diet and nutrition
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Physical inactivity
- Strong partnership working and communication skills
- Ability to work both strategically and operationally
- A passion for improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities
You’ll be part of a supportive team while also contributing to a wider public health agenda.
