Public Health Principal - Gambling Harms

Fixed Term Contract (12 months)

Ealing Council is seeking an experienced and motivated public health professional to lead our programme of work on gambling harms prevention.

This exciting one-year fixed-term role will lead the development of Ealing's first comprehensive Gambling Harms Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). The postholder will take a population health and health inequalities approach to understanding the impact of gambling harms on local residents and communities, helping to shape future prevention, policy and commissioning priorities.

Working at Principal level, you will lead complex quantitative and qualitative analysis, undertake community and stakeholder engagement, and oversee participatory research delivered in partnership with Ealing's Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). You will play a key role in ensuring that local evidence and lived experience inform policy, commissioning and service development to reduce gambling-related harm and improve outcomes for residents.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive Gambling Harms JSNA.
  • Design and deliver participatory research and engagement activities in partnership with Ealing's Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC), placing lived experience at the centre of the work and informing the development of the Gambling Harms JSNA and future action.
  • Analyse and interpret complex health, social and wider determinants data to identify need, inequalities and opportunities for action.
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships across a complex system.
  • Provide expert public health advice to support strategy, policy and decision-making.
  • Translate evidence into practical recommendations that support prevention, early intervention and reduction of health inequalities.
  • Represent Public Health at local, regional and national forums and contribute to wider learning on gambling harms prevention.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
