Public Health Community Staff Nurse (5-19) – School Nursing
North Hertfordshire and Stevenage
An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic and motivated Band 5 Public Health Staff Nurses to join the School Nursing Team within Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT).
About the Role
The role offers excellent opportunities for Band 5 registered nurses to work autonomously yet collaboratively across North Hertfordshire. This is an innovative service that delivers high-quality public health care to children and young people, integrating with Family Support Services and early intervention pathways through innovative methods such as:
- Electronic health assessments at key stages to identify health and developmental needs
- Chat Health text messaging service for direct communication channels
- Two child and family-focused digital health websites
Work also includes supporting home-educated children under the guidance of a Specialist Public Health Nurse.
Responsibilities
You will be required to:
- Work autonomously while being guided by a Specialist Practitioner (5-19)
- Contribute effectively as a team player across a skill-mix model
- Develop and implement local public health plans within schools and wider communities
- Engage with a diverse range of children, young people, families, and professionals
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills across multiple stakeholders
- Work across North Hertfordshire, including regional travel via an owned/accessible vehicle (business insurance required) – all employees must hold a valid UK driving licence, unless exempt due to disability as per the Equality Act 2010
- Contribute to the mobile working model of the public health team

Requirements
- Registered Public Health Staff Nurse (Band 5)+
- Eligibility for NHS auspices (if not already registered)
- Full, valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or equivalence under the Equality Act 2010)
- Ideally experience with electronic health records, though full training provided
- Excellent communication skills to engage with young people, families, and partners
