Public Protection Practitioner – Pollution Team
Team: Public Protection – Environmental Health – Pollution Team Job Family: Directing - CBG9-12 Salary: £34,811 - £50,436 per annum pro rata Hours: 22 hours a week Contract Type: Hybrid – Permanent Location: Expected to attend a Council office no less than once per month

About the Role
We are seeking a self-motivated, organised, and enthusiastic professional to join our team as a Public Protection Practitioner, acting as a key environmental advisor within the Public Protection department.
Core Responsibilities:
This role is responsible for:
- Providing consultee comments on planning applications for environmental pollution risks (Noise, Air Quality, Light, and Contaminated Land)
- Acting as the lead officer for all contaminated land matters, including:
- Responding to contaminated land enquiries
- Ensuring fulfilment of the Council’s statutory duties related to contaminated land
- Developing and implementing the Council’s Contaminated Land Strategy
- Offering specialist guidance to the Local Planning Authority on pollution-related considerations
- Supporting the efficiency and accuracy of the council’s environmental decision-making processes

Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A relevant scientific degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (desirable)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in regulatory compliance or a similar environmental domain (essential)
- In-depth knowledge of environmental protection legislation and regulations (desirable)
- Certificate or equivalent qualification in:
- GCSE Mathematics and English (Grade 4-9 or A-C)*
- Two A-Levels or equivalent (essential)
- Proficiency in IT systems for data management and reporting (essential)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement
