Job Details

The International Association for Democracy (IAD) is an NGO that works to defend and advance democracy around the globe. We link people with their governments and lobby governments to promote, strengthen and safeguard democratic institutions, processes, norms and values at home and abroad. We also work towards raising public awareness about the current state of democracy around the world and what should be done to better defend and promote democracy. IAD is looking for a Public Relations Officer to join the public relations team to help us get press coverage for our activities and get the op-eds of our volunteers published. This role is expected to take 3-5 hours per week.

  • Identify and build relationships with relevant press contacts
  • Prepare press releases and get press coverage for IAD
  • Write op-eds on topics related to democracy (as a representative of IAD)
  • Secure the publication of our volunteers’ op-eds

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in public relations
  • Passion for promoting democracy and the rule of law as well as IAD’s mission
  • Basic understanding of Google Workspace and collaboration tools on Google Docs
  • Previous work experience in public relations (preparing press releases and op-eds, securing media coverage, liaising with journalists etc.)
  • Previous successes in securing media coverage and/or the publication of op-eds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing relationships with journalists
