The Team
To support and accelerate UK/EMEA PR functions for some of Mattel’s most exciting and well-known brands including Barbie, Hot Wheels, UNO, Thomas & Friends, and others in the UK & other key European markets including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Poland. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at a very high level across consumer, corporate, trade, and internal comms, working in a fast-paced environment while being mentored and developed. This will suit a PR, English or Media undergraduate who has a desire to work in the public relations industry.
The Role
- Shadow and support UK & EMEA PR team on day-to-day operations across consumer PR
- Assist in preparing toolkits and press assets for key brands
- Media monitoring (UK/EMEA) & creation of coverage reports and evaluations, learning about UK & European media
- Support on PR shoots, campaigns and events in the UK
- Learn how to craft PR stories and sell-in to media, gaining valuable PR experience
- Work closely with European PR agencies across markets to set up meetings, manage admin and coordinate materials on brand comms
- Updating and creating EMEA & UK coverage decks
- Collate and analyse yearly PR figures for E5 Markets
- Support press office function by distributing press assets to all agencies
- Manage admin of department – process invoices, generate PO’s & manage budget documents (Anaplan & team excel)
- Admin – Support for Sr. Director of Comms in admin (meetings, expense report etc.)
- Support key trade shows with coordination, press office & on the ground support – Nuremberg & BLE
- Support in the production of materials such as videos and photos to aid internal comms
- Support management operations across UK & EMEA influencer programs & evaluations

Social and Philanthropic Opportunities
Mattel Interns receive a unique opportunity to play an active role in the generation of event initiatives, with the other Mattel interns alongside the ‘Heart of Play’ social committee, to drive employee engagement and live the Mattel Brands, include the Halloween Party, Children’s Festive Party and other ad-hoc events and activations. As well as assisting with the organisation and delivery of philanthropic activities as a member of Mattel’s charity events management team, “Our Committee”.
Role Requirements
- Currently studying an undergraduate degree with a placement year (Masters students will not be accepted)
- MUST have outstanding writing skills
- Capacity to summarise vast amounts of research information
- Digitally savvy
- Knowledge and genuine interest in the media/entertainment sector
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Team Player
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent organisational skills with an ability to multi-task under pressure
- Ability to be proactive
- Self-starter and ability to work independently
- Live/willing to relocate within a commutable distance of the Slough office
