As an essential voice for Londoners, our journalism represents the city and its diverse residents at every level. In 2026, Independent Media completed its landmark long-term partnership to manage The Standard’s digital journalism, ad tech, and commercial platforms. The integration expanded Independent Media’s portfolio of premium brands in the UK, alongside The Independent, Bulletin, and the BuzzFeed UK network, strengthening its position as a global media leader and expanding its collective reach to more than 500 million users worldwide.
The role and the team
The London Standard is the heartbeat of the capital. We tell stories that matter to Londoners, from breaking news and political shifts to the latest in culture, sport, and lifestyle. At the center of our digital newsroom is the Publishing Hub, and we are looking for a sharp, fast-paced news editor to help drive it.
As a Publishing Hub Editor, you are a hands-on leader. You will balance sharp editorial judgment with a digital-first mindset, ensuring our coverage across news, sport, entertainment, and lifestyle is fast, accurate, and London-focused. You will be right in the thick of it, including commissioning original stories, launching live blogs, steering breaking news, and ensuring our content lands with maximum impact.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
- Drive the daily agenda by managing the story flow across all sections and deciding when to launch live blogs, commission original pieces, or optimise agency wires.
- Lead data-driven commissioning alongside audience editors, tracking real-time trends to shape our coverage around what Londoners want to read and watch.
- Package content by crafting sharp SEO and social media headlines that cut through the noise while maintaining the Standard's voice.
- Uphold editorial quality by ensuring every story meets strict legal and house-style standards under tight deadline pressures.
- Manage major event coverage and breaking news on flexible shift patterns to match peak audience demand.

Essential Skills And Experience
- A proven track record in a busy digital newsroom, with the agility to switch seamlessly between hard news, entertainment, sport and lifestyle.
- Excellent news judgment with the ability to make quick, accurate decisions during breaking news situations.
- A rock-solid understanding of media law and publishing guidelines.
- Experience with modern content management systems and a genuine enthusiasm for adopting AI-assisted publishing tools to improve workflows.
- A team player who loves working with data analysts and reporters to make our journalism travel further.
