Location: Milton Keynes Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 plus company-specific benefits, including bonus

Robert Walters are partnering with a growing and well-established business in Milton Keynes to recruit an experienced Purchase Ledger Manager.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance professional to:

  • Take ownership of the purchase-to-pay function
  • Lead a high-performing team
  • Play a key role in driving process improvements across the finance department

The Purchase Ledger Manager will report directly to the Group Financial Controller and work closely with the CFO, ensuring:

  • The efficient operation of the accounts payable function
  • Exceptional service delivery to both internal stakeholders and external suppliers

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, develop, and motivate the Purchase Ledger team, ensuring high levels of performance and engagement
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing, approval, and payment of supplier invoices
  • Manage the end-to-end accounts payable function, ensuring:
    • Robust financial controls
    • Compliance with company policies
  • Act as the primary point of contact for key suppliers, building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
  • Resolve escalated supplier queries and payment issues, efficiently and professionally
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance:
    • Processes
    • Controls
    • System efficiencies within the purchase ledger function
  • Conduct regular audits of:
    • Banking access
    • Payment controls Ensuring adherence to internal governance procedures
  • Perform and review bank reconciliations, investigating any discrepancies
  • Collaborate with operational teams across the business to:
    • Identify and resolve process issues
    • Prevent impact on suppliers or financial reporting
  • Support month-end and year-end processes, providing:
    • Accurate accounts payable reporting
    • Analysis
  • Partner closely with the Group Financial Controller and CFO to support:
    • Wider finance projects
    • Strategic initiatives

About You

Ideal candidates possess the following:

  • Proven experience managing a:
    • Purchase Ledger
    • Accounts Payable team within a busy finance environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • Accounts payable processes
    • Financial controls
  • Solid accounting background with clear expertise in:
    • Reconciliations
    • Month-end procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Lead, coach, and develop team members
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the capacity to:
    • Manage multiple priorities concurrently
  • Strong skills in:
    • Stakeholder management
    • Communication
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • A continuous improvement mindset
  • Experience with finance systems and ERP platforms is a strong advantage
