Senior Process Engineer – PVD Samples (Newport, UK)

Role Description: Process Engineer (PVD Samples Team)
Are you a Process Engineer with a passion for semiconductor deposition and innovation? While we’re not actively recruiting for an open role, we’re building our Process Engineer talent community, and we’d love to learn about your background.
If selected, you’ll join the PVD Samples team at our Newport manufacturing facility, working closely with:
- Product Marketing
- Customer teams
- Hardware design teams
- Research & Development (R&D)
Key Responsibilities
Process Demonstrations
- Collaborate with Product Marketing to define customer demo specifications
- Demonstrate PVD deposition and ancillary processes using demo equipment
- Perform benchmarking and troubleshooting
- Generate detailed reports presenting results to internal teams and customers
- Ensure repeatable, high-quality process outputs
Process & Hardware Development
- Develop new deposition processes aligned with KLA’s yearly technological roadmap
- Benchmark processes against industry standards and customer requirements
- Conduct cross-functional testing of hardware enhancements
- Participate in new product development projects
- Research and publish findings in:
- Technical reports (patent submissions)
- Conference papers and industry seminars

Field Support & Customer Engagement
- Adapt KLA-defined processes for customer-specific requirements (with possible travel)
- Provide remote / on-site troubleshooting for field critical issues
- Build strong relationships with:
- Customer field support teams
- Local service agents
- Regional KLA operation managers
- Facilitate cross-department coordination for complex technical problems
Additional Responsibilities
- Project leadership: Occasionally manage engineering initiatives, such as process validation or field support warrants
- Programme management: Coordinate tasks across multiple engineering teams
- Shifting schedule: Work alternating early and late shifts (6:00 AM – 2:00 PM or 1:30 PM – 9:30 PM) with occasional weekend work
- Global travel: Prepared for international assignments as needed
Industry Engagement & Presentation Skills
- Regular written updates to internal/external stakeholders
- Preparation of technical presentations for R&D review sessions
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
We seek candidates with:
- A degree, master’s, or PhD (or equivalent experience) in:
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Materials Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Big-Four equivalent experience alternatives considered (under degree requirements listed below).
Proven Experience
- 1 or more years synergistically combining specific academic and work experience under these rules (at or above scale or summation for follow on, same level, entry):
- Doctorate: 0 years
- Master’s degree: 3 years professional work experience
- Bachelor’s degree: 5 years professional work experience
Preferred Skills
✅ Industry-specific experience with:
- Semiconductor processing equipment
- Substrate metrology
🔍 Technical expertise in:
- Metal film deposition (PVD)
- Thickness & stress measurement tools:
- Annealing techniques
- Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
- Ellipsometry
- Interference microscopy
- Adhesion testing
- Problem-solving approaches:
- From first principles
- Collaborative stakeholder engagement
