Python Backend Developer (File Processing) - Relocation to Cyprus
Mid-Level Backend Developer (File Processing Team) – Cyprus (Onsite)
About the Role
We are seeking a Mid-Level Backend Developer to join our growing File Processing team, playing a pivotal role in modernizing our legacy infrastructure. You’ll help transition batch jobs from Perl to a Python-based ecosystem, working in a fast-paced fintech environment focused on high-load data pipelines and financial orchestration.
Location: Onsite in Cyprus (employment contract with relocation support) Reporting to: Technical Lead
Key Responsibilities
- System Implementation Assist in redesigning legacy Perl batch jobs into scalable, maintainable Python services.
- Operational Reliability Help deploy workflow orchestration (using tools like Prefect or Airflow) to enable safe job re-runs and enhance system stability.
- Observability Implement logging and alerting (via Grafana/CloudWatch) to monitor systems without direct production access.
- Data Transformation
Develop data ingestion pipelines, including:
- Moving raw data to AWS S3
- Transforming data into relational database records (MySQL-compatible).
Requirements
Technical & Operational Skills
- Python Expertise
- 3+ years of backend development experience.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code (no reliance on AI-assisted explanations).
- Orchestration & Automation
- Experience with Airflow or Prefect for job scheduling and dependency management.
- AWS Fundamentals
- Familiarity with S3, Lambda, and preferred methods for storing/processing data.
- Database Knowledge
- Hands-on experience with MySQL (SQL queries, optimisation, schema design).
- Problem-Solving & Initiative
- Strong analytical skills and a proactive troubleshooting mindset.
- Interest in understanding the business impact of payment flows and reconciliation processes.

Hiring Process
Step 1: Thinking in Action (40 minutes)

- Complete a short technical screening interviewed by the engineering team.
Step 2: Build in Production (60–90 minutes)
- Live coding exercise or real-world scenario assessment with the Team Lead and technical experts.
- Evaluates technical depth, problem-solving ability, and collaborative potential.
Step 3: Final Interview (45 minutes)
- Group discussion with senior stakeholders (CTO, CPO, Team Lead).
- Orientation on team collaboration, expectations, and cultural fit.
- Opportunity to learn about team dynamics, culture, and payment technology domain.
