Mid-Level Backend Developer (Fintech) – Cyprus (Onsite)
About the Role
We are seeking a Mid-Level Backend Developer to join our growing File Processing Team and contribute to our migration journey—transforming legacy Perl batch jobs into a modern Python-based infrastructure. This role is perfect for an experienced developer passionate about high-performance data pipelines, financial orchestration, and scalable system architecture in a fast-paced fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- System Re-architecture: Convert legacy Perl batch jobs into Python services while ensuring maintainability and scalability.
- Orchestration & Reliability: Implement workflow automation using Prefect/Airflow to enhance stability and support safe job re-runs.
- Observability: Integrate logging (Grafana/CloudWatch) for robust monitoring, enabling efficient troubleshooting without direct access to production.
- Data Transformation: Design and implement ETL pipelines—ingesting raw data, processing it, and storing it in S3 and relational databases (MySQL).
- System Performance: Optimise and scale pipelines to handle high-load financial transactions efficiently.
Location & Reporting
📍 Cyprus (onsite), with relocation support included. 🔹 Reports directly to the Technical Lead.
Your Profile: What We Need
Technical Expertise
- 3+ years of backend development experience, predominantly in Python.
- Strong familiarity with AWS (S3, Lambda, Elasticsearch, and other compute/storage services).
- Hands-on experience with relational databases, particularly MySQL for high-frequency transactions.
- Prefect/Airflow experience (or willingness to learn) for workflow orchestration.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with clear explanations for collaborative debugging.
- Proficiency in Python arcaneurs (debugging, performance tuning, integration with legacy systems).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
