Python Engineer
Python Engineer (Backend) – Genomics & Precision Healthcare
Location: United Kingdom (partner-managed recruitment)
About the Role
We are seeking a Python Engineer to join a distributed engineering team, where you’ll develop high-performance backend applications supporting advanced genomic analysis and precision healthcare. Your work will drive scalable web platforms, APIs, and services used globally by researchers and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable backend systems using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework
- Develop and enhance APIs/web platforms, ensuring high performance and reliability
- Publisher APIs & backend services for front-end integration, optimising communication
- Participate in architecture decisions, code reviews, testing, and performance tuning
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, product teams, and domain experts to deliver features end-to-end
- Take ownership of deployment, monitoring, and shared on-call guard duty
- Drive code quality through unit/integration/functional testing and engineering best practices
- Progress features from design to delivery, ensuring thorough validation

Core Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Backend Python Experience: 3+ years developing production systems with Python, Django, Django REST Framework
- Technical Expertise:
- Backend architectures, scalability principles
- RESTful API design and implementation
- Relational databases (MariaDB experience is a plus)
- Unit/integration/functional testing frameworks
- Soft Skills: Fluent verbal/written English and collaborative adaptability
- Bonus Eligibility: Familiarity with: Google Cloud Platform, Ansible, Bootstrap, React
- Interest in genomics, bioinformatics, or healthcare tech
