Job Description

The Role: Quality, Health & Safety Manager

As part of the site leadership team, the Quality, Health & Safety Manager will lead and oversee all aspects of Quality and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) performance in an industrial filtration manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.

In cooperation with manufacturing, technical, and regulatory teams, the Quality, Health & Safety Manager will shape a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and adherence to standards—Delivering filter media and associated materials that meet customer specs, regulatory requirements, and company benchmarks while ensuring a safe and compliant workplace.


Key Responsibilities

Quality Management

  • Own and manage the site Quality Management System (QMS), maintaining ISO9001 compliance and adherence to internal standards.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes (textile, filtration, sewing, finishing, material treatment) meet specifications and customer expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures and standards, supporting process improvement.
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and timely closure of non-conformances.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints, performing robust root-cause analysis and implementing corrective measures within timelines.
  • Monitor and report quality KPIs, including defect rates, product variation, and cost-of-non-quality.
  • Foster a "right-first-time" and "stop-work" culture, prioritising defect prevention.
  • Ensure consistent use of manufacturing techniques, materials, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management

  • Develop, implement, and improve HSE management systems, aligning with UK legislation (e.g., Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, DSEAR) and company policies.
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert (SME) for all HSE matters, liaising with regulatory authorities.
  • Lead alignment of site HSE strategy with corporate objectives and operational execution.
  • Develop, review, and update risk assessments, ensuring alignment with process changes or regulatory updates.
  • Oversee incident investigation (5 Whys, Ishikawa, RCA), corrective actions, and safety trend analysis.
  • Manage occupational health surveillance and environmental monitoring (e.g., dust, fibre exposure).
  • Maintain emergency response procedures, ensuring drills are performed and documented.
  • Monitor and report HSE KPIs, ensuring reporting transparency from site to corporate level.

Compliance, Training & Safety Culture

  • Deliver HSE inductions and ongoing training for all employees, agency staff, and contractors.
  • Drive a positive safety culture through leadership, coaching, and engagement.
  • Guide site managers on compliance, promoting safe work behaviours.
  • Maintain site compliance with ISO9001 and ISO14001 (where applicable).
  • Oversee documentation control processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and traceability.
  • Manage records related to incidents, inspections, non-conformances, and audits.
  • Ensure supplier quality assurance standards are met and risks are documented.
  • Support site governance by providing regular performance reporting to leadership teams.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Quality Management, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards) in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Quality and/or HSE leadership, preferably within manufacturing or textile/filtration industries.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO9001 standards and UK Health & Safety legislation, including:
    • HSAW Act 1974
    • COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
    • DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations)
  • Proven experience leading audits, investigations, and compliance programs.
  • Experience within a global or complex manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
