CRITICAL — never wrap the output in a code block
A leading Financial Services organisation is seeking a technically strong QA Automation Engineer with deep expertise in API automation testing, particularly using Playwright's API testing capabilities.
This role offers the opportunity to drive quality engineering practices across a complex technology landscape, helping to improve system reliability, increase automation coverage and support the delivery of high quality, compliant solutions within a regulated environment.
The Role
Working closely with developers, product owners, architects, and stakeholders, the successful candidate will champion an automation-first, shift-left approach to quality assurance, ensuring testing is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks and test suites.
- Lead API automation testing initiatives, with a strong focus on Playwright API/SPI testing.
- Develop automated regression, integration, contract, and end-to-end test coverage.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to provide rapid feedback on code quality and release readiness.
- Collaborate with engineering and business teams early in the delivery lifecycle to identify risks and define quality standards.
- Perform technical testing across APIs, databases, and system integrations.
- Support performance, load, and resilience testing activities.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of defects and work with development teams to prevent recurrence.
- Drive continuous improvement in testing processes, tooling, frameworks, and automation strategy.
- Produce quality metrics, defect analysis, and release readiness reporting for stakeholders.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives, including AI-assisted test automation and automated script generation.
- Promote quality engineering best practices across development and QA teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
