Location: Hybrid with 1 day per week in our Manchester office
About the Role
Part of the SMG family, Plan-Apps is an innovative, tech-driven company specialising in B2B SaaS solutions tailored for the retail media industry. Our dynamic platform helps retailers optimise their media strategies by connecting brands and retailers to plan, manage, and measure marketing campaigns data-driven.
We’re seeking a skilled, motivated, and experienced QA Engineer—both manual and automation—to shape the future of retail media. In this role, you’ll validate functionality, performance, and usability, enforce software quality, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate combines a strong technical background with a passion for excellence.

A Little Bit About You
What we’re looking for:
Relevant Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a QA Engineer, with strong records in both manual and automated testing
- Expertise in QA methodologies, automation tools, and test processes.
- Deep familiarity with:
- UI testing, API testing, end-to-end (E2E) testing
- Debugging using HTML, CSS, DOM manipulation, and browser dev tools/logs
- Proficiency in:
- Building automated test frameworks
- Understanding BDD (Behavior-Driven Development) & TDD (Test-Driven Development)
- Programming in JavaScript/TypeScript/Node.js for test scripting
- Hands-on experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaborating across teams
Nice-to-Haves
- Comprehensive expertise in non-functional testing (performance, security, load)

What You’ll Be Doing
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and execute manual & automated test cases aligned with product requirements.
- Write and maintain automated test scripts using Cypress / Playwright for UI, API, and E2E testing.
- Define testing scope, phases, and strategies for each Agile transformation or release.
- Collaborate with developers, QA teams, and product managers to create comprehensive test plans.
- Implement automation frameworks, integrate tests into CI/CD processes (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
- Debug and troubleshoot test failures, log issues, and facilitate resolution via Jira.
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility, analyze results, and mitigate defects.
- Maintain automated test documentation, including reports, strategies, and Confluence records.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement in QA practices.
- Continually enhance test automation reports and refine QA processes.
