QA Tester Apprentice (Level 4)

We’re looking for a detail-oriented QA Tester Apprentice (Level 4) to join our remote team. You’ll help ensure the quality and reliability of our software products while completing a recognised Software Testing qualification. Ideal for problem-solvers seeking a tech career, with no prior coding experience required.

Wage

£16,000 a year
The pay may be negotiated and may rise after a probation period has been successfully completed.

  • 37 hours 30 minutes a week

What You'll Do at Work

  • Design, write, and execute test cases and test scripts across functional and non-functional requirements
  • Identify, log, and track defects using bug tracking tools, ensuring clear and reproducible documentation
  • Perform manual and automated testing across web, mobile, and desktop applications
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and product owners to understand requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) via Microsoft Teams
  • Use Microsoft Office 365 to document test plans, reports, and communicate findings with stakeholders
  • Support regression, integration, performance, and user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of QA processes and testing frameworks
  • Maintain organised and up-to-date test documentation in line with project governance standards

What You'll Learn

Course Contents

  • Create logical and maintainable code
  • Develop effective user interfaces
  • Link code to data sets
  • Test code and analyse results to correct errors found using unit testing
  • Conduct a range of test types, such as Integration, System, User Acceptance, Non-Functional, Performance and Security testing.
  • Identify and create test scenarios
  • Apply structured techniques to problem solving, debug code and understand the structure of programmes in order to identify and resolve issues
  • Create simple software designs to effectively communicate understanding of the program
  • Create analysis artefacts, such as use cases and/or user stories
  • Build, manage and deploy code into the relevant environment
  • Apply an appropriate software development approach according to the relevant paradigm (for example object oriented, event driven or procedural)
  • Follow software designs and functional or technical specifications
  • Follow testing frameworks and methodologies
  • Follow company, team or client approaches to continuous integration, version and source control
  • Communicate software solutions and ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Apply algorithms, logic and data structures
  • Interpret and implement a given design whilst remaining compliant with security and maintainability requirements

Training Schedule

Software Developer Level 4.
Velocity apprenticeship training programmes are delivered virtually by our fully qualified and industry experienced training team. Using their expert knowledge, they will provide the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace and to expand future career prospects.
Throughout the apprenticeship learners receive coaching, help and guidance from a dedicated team who are there to ensure they get the most from their programme.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)
    • GCSE any 3 subjects (excluding English and Maths) (grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)
    • Maths (grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Qualification in:
    • Relevant areas (grade at level 3)
