Project Overview: First-of-a-Kind LAES Facility
Client: Highview Power Carrington Location: Greater Manchester Key Details:
- 50 MW / 300 MWh Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) commercial-scale facility
- First commercial deployment of renewable-powered energy storage supporting the UK’s net-zero transition
- Innovative technology converting surplus electricity into liquefied air for on-demand generation
Bilfinger’s Role:
- Principal contractor for Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation (MEI) construction, including structural steelwork
- Delivery of safety-critical systems in a first-of-this-kind (FOAK) environment
- Integration with multi-disciplinary project teams on a high-tech, low-carbon energy asset

The Role: Quality Assurance Lead
You will drive quality assurance (QA) and compliance for this landmark project, ensuring:
- Effective project documentation, audit, and corrective action processes
- Right-first-time standards through QA/QC oversight, audit management, and performance monitoring
- Strong supplier/subcontractor compliance and client transparency
Key Responsibilities:

QA Strategy & Execution
- Lead quality-related advice for the entire project
- Develop, review, and maintain Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and supporting QA documentation, liaising with senior engineers and SMEs
- Ensure robust document control, tracking, and adherence to drawings and specifications

Audit & Non-Conformance Management
- Conduct internal project audits, produce audit schedules, and report findings
- Validate effectiveness of corrective actions arising from non-conformities (NCs) or audits
- Monitor KPIs for QA performance and quality trust initiatives

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
- Oversee adherence to construction industry standards (e.g., ASME B31.3 for piping, EC&I systems)
- Ensure supplier/subcontractor compliance with project contractual and legal requirements
- Collaborate with client QA departments for transparent reporting

Risk & Continuous Improvement
- Promote a cultural focus on quality and safety, particularly "right-first-time" execution
- Apply problem-solving methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis)
- Encourage a continuous improvement mindset across the team

Qualifications & Experience Requirements
Essential:
✔ Strong background in engineering and QA/QC, with regulatory industry experience (highly preferred in petrochemical, oil & gas, aviation, or construction) ✔ Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) in regulated environments ✔ Recognised quality certification/qualifications (e.g., IRCA, BSI, CQI) ✔ Experience with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001) and technical specifications ✔ Strong expertise in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and SharePoint ✔ Exceptional communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
Desirable (but advantageous):
🔹 Internal Auditor certification (IRCA) 🔹 CSWIP 3.1 Welding knowledge 🔹 Understanding of NDE techniques, BS EN 10204 (Test Certificate Schedules), and Pressure Equipment Directive compliance 🔹 Experience with offshore/onshore construction QA/QC
